Neston 2 - 2 Wrexham 2nds
Dec 8th 2012
Wrexham Glyndwr Men’s 2XI played well and worked hard for a 2-2 draw with current 3rd placed Neston. Wrexham were missing critical players and the boys who stepped up played well and did not look out of place. Both teams enjoyed spells of play, with Neston dominating towards the second half making Wrexham keeper 'Sharpy' work hard and had to pull a few fine saves to keep the score line level. The keeper also spent a lot of time floundering on the edge of the “D” and after the ball edged ever nearer to the goal line we collectively breathed a sigh of relief as the ball was cleared miraculously. Neston were disappointed not to score a couple in the first half, and each team had plenty to reflect on at the break.
Reinforcing good defending and minimising the mistakes were only going to allow Wrexham a chance with Aaron the only outlet this week who had a couple of fleeting half chances in the first half. Wrexham started as they had finished and found themselves defending the majority of the second half with neither side coming close to scoring.
Aaron got the break. Barclay released the ball from a defensive position and sent Aaron running towards their goal. Good defending from Neston pushed him wide and the ball fell back to the midfield. The ball fell back to Aaron who needed two shots to score a goal. The Neston Goalkeeper was livid!
However Neston soon equalised due to poor concentration from the whole Wrexham team. Confusion reigned over how much time was left: we had '2 final minutes' twice.
In the second final two minutes Wrexham drove hard at a tiring defence and Barclay was stick challenged resulting in a short corner. The short was done well, but it was the lowest drag-flick ever performed that stayed on the floor and went in the corner.
In the final seconds of the game Tiger in his wisdom dribbled in the corner in an attempt to waste time....he lost the ball and conceded a short corner which Neston scored. A reverse baseball shot after Sharpy padded the ball down. Wrexham did well considering recent results but think they might have won....
